Labor Day Sports on TV
Labor Day weekend features all the usual marquee games, including several interconference matchups. In fact, the game between Ohio State and Minnesota on FOX on Thursday drew more than six million viewers. There’s a good chance that some of the other games on the schedule could top those numbers, as well.
College football games on Labor Day
Labor Day weekend is a prime time for college football, as several top teams will be playing. Some of the featured matchups include No. 3 Georgia vs. No. 11 Oregon on ABC. On ESPN, No. 19 Arkansas will play host to No. 23 Cincinnati. On ESPN2, No. 2 Ohio State will take on No. 5 Notre Dame. Streaming is also available for Kentucky’s 7 p.m. Saturday game against Miami (Ohio) on ESPN Plus. Also on ESPN is Eastern Kentucky at Eastern Michigan.
There are also a number of other games to watch on Labor Day. The Florida State-Miami game was originally scheduled for Labor Day, September 6, at 8 p.m. ET. However, that game was delayed to September 7 due to Hurricane Irma. The same fate befell the Utah-Wyoming game on November 13. ABC was unable to televise the game due to poor lighting.
NBA playoff matchups
On the last day of the regular season, all 30 teams will play their final regular-season games on television. The Eastern Conference will play host to the Miami Heat and the West will play the Atlanta Hawks. The first game will tip off at 1 p.m. ET and the second game will tip off at 3:30 p.m. ET. Both games will air on ESPN.
The NBA usually has a lengthy offseason after the season, but this year is different. After the COVID-19 season pause, the playoffs will start. Game five of the Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Raptors and the Celtics will take place at 6:30 p.m. Eastern. The winner of this matchup will advance to the conference finals. Both games will be broadcast on TNT. There will also be a PGA Tour Championship, which will be televised from 1:30 p.m. Eastern to 6 p.m.
There are several live broadcasts available on ESPN on Labor Day. NBA TV will also feature games in the Eastern Conference on Wednesday and Thursday. There are a total of seven games on TV that day. There are a total of eight playoff games, so there will be a matchup for each team.
NASCAR Darlington race
Watch the NASCAR Darlington race on Labor day for one of the most memorable weekend of the season. The race at Darlington Raceway, in South Carolina, is one of NASCAR’s most historic venues. It has hosted the Southern 500 every Labor Day weekend since 1950 and is the site of the annual Throwback Weekend. This 1.366-mile oval has been home to 22 Hall of Fame drivers.
Traditionally, the NASCAR Cup Series will return to Darlington Raceway on Labor Day Weekend, which this year will feature the Cook Out Southern 500. It will also be the first round of the 10-race playoffs. The Cook Out Southern 500 will be the first event on the weekend, while the Sports Clips VFW Help A Hero 200 will follow on the Saturday.
Fans will be able to watch the race online or on television. The 2022 playoffs will take place at Darlington Raceway, South Carolina, and the defending series champion Kyle Larson is the favorite to win the race. The 2020 Cup champ Chase Elliott is also a top contender for the championship. To watch the race, check out the USA network, the NBC Sports app, or SiriusXM.
